Purpose:
The primary purpose of this
blog/website is to provide insight about the current and projected effects of
climate change on agriculture, mainly at a global scale. Although there have
been vast improvements in technology (genetically modified crops, improved
irrigation systems, improved crop variety), agriculture is a field that is
directly affected by changes in climate, and even the slighted increase in
average temperatures will lead to reduced yields and crop productivity. In
essence, as the unimpeded growth of greenhouse gas emissions continues to
persist, the elevated global temperature in combination with the accelerated
growth of the human population, will end up threatening food security
worldwide. Thus, this website will implore possible solutions and adaptations
that can be made both at a global and local scale.
In addition, this website will also
explore the contribution that agriculture has on global warming, primarily the
impact that livestock and global monoculture production (maize and soy) has
on the global warming. Possible
solutions to mitigate the impacts that agriculture has on the environment will
be explored.
